Airmail service (البريد الجوي) expanded rapidly in post-independence Lebanon during the mid-20th century as Beirut emerged as a central civil aviation hub connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The growth of commercial air networks like Middle East Airlines (MEA) and Air Liban transformed international postal operations, enabling swift delivery of foreign correspondence, air parcels, and official dispatches across continents.

To facilitate international airmail postal rates, the Republic of Lebanon (الجمهورية اللبنانية) issued a new definitive airmail series featuring a stylized multi-engine propeller airliner in flight. Designed by V. Pliiss and printed locally in Beirut by Imp. J. Saikali, this long-serving issue highlighted Lebanon's growing integration into global aviation networks and supported daily international mail transit throughout the post-WWII era.
