The Arab Postal Union (اتحاد البريد العربي / Union Postale Arabe) was officially established on July 1, 1954, as a specialized regional organization under the umbrella of the Arab League. Created to streamline mail exchange between Arab nations, standardise postal tariffs, and foster regional cooperation, the APU served to align member states' postal services with Universal Postal Union (UPU) standards while strengthening intra-Arab diplomatic and commercial ties.
To commemorate the founding of the union on July 1, 1954 (۱۹٥٤-۷-۱), the Republic of Lebanon (لبنان) issued a dedicated commemorative stamp series. Printed in Beirut by Imprimerie Catholique (I.C. Beyrouth), the design features a terrestrial globe centered on the Middle East against a background of intricate traditional arabesque foliage, highlighting Lebanon's role in advancing regional integration and international mail exchange.
