International Tourist Year - 12.5 piastre
The Year of Tourism and Emigrant Homecoming (Année Touristique / صيف المغتربين) was a major national initiative launched by Lebanon in 1955. Designed to encourage the large Lebanese diaspora living across the Americas, West Africa, and Europe to return home for extended visits, the campaign simultaneously promoted international tourism. During the mid-1950s, Lebanon was experiencing a golden age of economic and cultural growth, positioning itself as a premier cultural and vacation hub in the Mediterranean.
To support this national campaign and promote international travel, the Republic of Lebanon (لبنان) issued a dedicated airmail set (POSTE AERIENNE / بريد جوي) in 1955. Designed by the renowned Lebanese painter Mustapha Farroukh (M. FARROUK) and printed in Beirut by Imprimerie Catholique (I.C. BEYROUTH), this 2.50 piastre stamp depicts a returning traveler carrying a suitcase and tipping his hat as he steps through an oriental archway overlooking the Lebanese coast and pine trees, celebrating diaspora connection and national hospitality.
