Mother and Child Days - 20 piastre

Issued to mark the annual Mother and Child Days (Journées de la Mère et de l'Enfant / ذكرى يومي الأم والطفل) held on March 21 and 22, 1960, this airmail charity issue supported pediatric healthcare, maternal welfare programs, and early childhood centers across Lebanon. Traditionally coinciding with the spring equinox and Mother's Day across the Arab world, the observance served as a national platform for public health campaigns aimed at reducing infant mortality and improving family well-being.

Designed by the Russian-Lebanese painter Paul Koroleff (P. Koroleff) and printed by I.C. Beyrouth, the 20 piastres stamp illustrates a joyful toddler balancing upright while taking its first independent steps. Rendered in warm orange and red tones, the artwork serves as an allegory for growth, care, and the nurturing protection of the family unit, while funding civic and charitable initiatives for mothers and children.
