World Lebanese Cultural Union - 70 piastre
Founded in 1960 during the presidency of General Fouad Chehab, the World Lebanese Cultural Union (Union des Libanais dans le Monde / جامعة اللبنانيين في العالم) was established to create a global, non-sectarian organization linking millions of Lebanese emigrants and diaspora communities back to their ancestral homeland. With significant diaspora populations flourishing across the Americas, West Africa, Europe, and Australia, this airmail commemorative stamp celebrated the inaugural world congress convened in Beirut, honoring the cultural, economic, and intellectual contributions of Lebanese communities worldwide.
Designed by artist Paul Koroleff (P. Koroleff) and printed by the Catholic Printing Press in Beirut (I.C. Beyrouth), the 20 piastres composition portrays a white dove in flight holding an interconnected, looping ribbon decorated with the national flags of major destination countries of the Lebanese diaspora (including Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Canada, Australia, France, and Senegal). The ribbon encircles a delicate geographical outline map of Lebanon with Beirut highlighted as the central radiating hub, symbolizing global unity, homecoming, and the enduring bond between the diaspora and their homeland.
