Postage due stamps - 2 piastre

Postage due stamps (Chiffre Taxe / مستحق) were issued by mail authorities to assess and collect unpaid or short-paid postage from the recipient before a letter or parcel was delivered. In mandatory and post-independence Lebanon, these administrative stamps played a vital role in maintaining daily postal revenue and standardizing operational accounting across national mail handling networks. To update its postal accounting system, the Republic of Lebanon (الجمهورية اللبنانية) issued a new definitive Postage Due series featuring intricate ornamental arabesque patterns surrounding a central bilingual cartouche. Designed by V. Pliiss and printed locally by Imp. J. Saikali in Beirut, the functional issue served as standard postage due for decades, ensuring administrative efficiency across Lebanese post offices during the mid-20th century.
