Greater Lebanon Olympic Issue – Classical Victory - 50C

Issued to celebrate the 8th Olympiad held in Paris, this stamp uses the overprint "GRAND LIBAN" to include the Lebanese territory in the global sporting community through its French administrative link. The illustration depicts an allegorical athlete with a laurel wreath, gesturing toward a rising sun, which symbolizes the rebirth of the Olympic spirit and the dawn of a new era. In the Lebanese context, this imagery carries a message of youthful vigor and international aspiration, aligning the nascent state with the classical ideals of physical excellence and peaceful competition. This issue reflects Lebanon’s growing cosmopolitan identity and its early participation in the cultural and symbolic events that defined the post-war international order.
